The participants in the “Friday of Prisoners’ Rage” denounced Bahraini authorities’ mistreatment of detained activists and their deplorable conditions in detention centers.
They underlined the need for release of political prisoners from the Al Khalifa regime’s jails, especially in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
Bahraini scholars had earlier called for massive participation in the rallies in solidarity with the families of political prisoners.
On Thursday, Bahrain’s most influential Shia cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim warned that political dissidents in Bahraini prisons face death, and requested their immediate release.
The senior cleric in a statement called on the ruling Al Khalifa regime to choose between the deaths of the dissident inmates and their release.
“One of the worst things the Bahraini government does is use prisoners as political bargaining, especially now that the coronavirus (pandemic) is attacking (Bahrain's) prisons,” the senior cleric continued.
